We care for each pearl with precision - now it's your turn to continue their story with thoughtful care.
Pearl Quality Factors
LUSTRE
Lustre is the shine that gives a pearl its radiant glow. A high-quality pearl reflects light sharply, often described as "glowing from within," while a lower-quality pearl may appear dull. For the best view, examine pearls in natural light—the sharper the reflection, the better the lustre
COLOUR
A pearl’s colour is determined by its type and origin. Rarer colours tend to be more expensive, adding to their unique beauty and value.
SHAPE
The shape of a pearl is an important factor in its overall beauty and value. While round pearls are the most coveted for their symmetry, unique shapes like baroque, circled, and drop pearls offer distinct charm and character.
SIZE
Just like with diamonds, the value of the pearl is not wholly determined by the size but rather their rarity. However, as a general rule, the larger the pearl, the higher the price tends to be.
SURFACE
Some imperfections are natural in pearls. Rolling them on a flat surface will reveal spotting, lines, or circles. These are inevitable, but the degree of imperfection will depend on the price.
Pearls
ONE OF A KIND, JUST LIKE YOU
A pearl is a natural, organic gem created inside the shell of an oyster or mollusk. Formed over time through the accumulation of nacre, each pearl is unique and tells a story of nature's craftsmanship. At Nishi Pearls, we source our pearls with the utmost care, ensuring they are cultivated ethically and sustainably. From the moment they are harvested, we focus on preserving their natural beauty.
CARE GUIDE
To ensure your pearls stay beautiful for years to come, remember to make them the final touch before heading out and the first item you remove when you return home. Keep your pearls away from harsh chemicals found in cosmetics, perfumes, and lotions, as they can damage the delicate surface.
STORAGE
Store your pearls separately from other jewelry to protect them from scratches. After each wear, gently wipe your pearls with the Nishi Pearls polishing cloth to maintain their natural luster.
CLEANING
To keep your pearls radiant, gently wipe them with a soft cloth to remove surface dirt. Remember, pearls should never be submerged in water or exposed to soap or detergent, as it can damage their lustre.
RESTRINGING
Strung pearl jewelry, like bracelets and necklaces, should be restrung every 1-4 years, depending on wear. If you notice stretching, discoloration, or fraying, have it restrung to avoid the string breaking.
Mother of Pearl
ONE OF A KIND, JUST LIKE YOU
Mother of pearl, or nacre, is the iridescent inner layer found in mollusk shells, like oysters and abalone. Unlike pearls, which form around an irritant, mother of pearl is the smooth, protective lining of the shell. Made up of layers of calcium carbonate and conchiolin, it catches the light with its soft, luminous glow, adding a touch of natural elegance to any piece.
CARE GUIDE
To keep your mother of pearl jewelry looking its best, clean it gently with your Nishi Pearls cloth and avoid contact with harsh chemicals, perfumes, or lotions. Protect it from scratches and impacts by storing it separately in a soft pouch or jewelry box. To maintain its natural beauty, keep it away from water, direct sunlight, and extreme temperatures.
Gold Vermeil
not your typical plating
Vermeil is made by coating sterling silver with a thick layer of 14kt gold, creating a rich, golden finish that combines the strength of sterling silver with the beauty of gold. Unlike standard gold plating, which often has a thin coating of only 0.5 microns, our vermeil pieces feature a thick 2.5-micron layer of gold, ensuring a longer-lasting color and durability. Think gold luxury, without the gold price tag.
CARE GUIDE
To keep your vermeil jewelry looking its best, clean it gently with your Nishi cleaning cloth and avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials. Remove your pieces before swimming, showering, or exercising to protect the gold plating from moisture. Store your jewelry in a cool, dry place, preferably in a soft pouch or jewelry box, to prevent scratches and tarnishing. With proper care, your vermeil jewelry will maintain its beautiful gold shine.
Solid Gold
STAY GOLDEN
Gold is a precious metal and isn’t reactive. It doesn’t oxidize or change color, even when in contact with water or skin acidity. We use only the finest 10kt and 14kt solid gold in our jewelry. The value of solid gold lies in its rarity, durability, and timeless appeal.
CARE GUIDE
Gold is naturally resistant to tarnishing because it doesn’t react with air or moisture like other metals. This means it retains its shine and beauty over time without the need for constant upkeep.
While solid gold is made to last a lifetime, it does require gentle care and occasional polishing. To maintain the shine of your jewelry, gently clean it with your Nishi Pearls cleaning cloth.
Sterling Silver
PURELY PRECIOUS
925 sterling silver is a precious metal made of 92.5% pure silver. We use only the highest quality sterling silver, plated with rhodium—a rare and expensive metal from the Platinum group—to ensure a lasting shine and bright white finish. This rhodium plating protects the silver from oxidation and gives our pieces a sleek, shiny finish that lasts longer than base metals like brass or stainless steel, which can tarnish easily.
CARE GUIDE
To keep your sterling silver jewelry looking its best, proactive maintenance is essential. Regularly wipe your pieces with your Nishi Pearsl cleaning cloth to remove any dirt or oils. Store your jewelry in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and humidity.
Since sterling silver oxidizes in water, we recommend removing your jewelry before swimming, showering, or exercising.
Gemstones
Semi-precious, fully brilliant.
We handpick a curated collection of precious and semi-precious stones, like natural white topaz, to perfectly complement our pearls. Each gemstone is selected for its unique beauty, making your piece truly one of a kind.
CARE GUIDE
Many colored gemstones are sensitive to discoloration and fading when exposed to natural elements like sunlight, saltwater, perspiration, and chemical irritants such as chlorine, cosmetics, and lotions. To preserve the beauty of your gemstones, store your Nishi Pearls jewelry in a safe, dry place when not in use, protecting it from daily exposure.
Diamonds
A PEARL'S BEST FRIEND
All of our diamonds are carefully selected to meet high standards, with GHI color and SI-I1-I2 clarity. We are committed to ethical sourcing, using only Kimberley Process-compliant natural diamonds, ensuring that each stone is conflict-free and responsibly mined giving you both beauty and peace of mind.
CARE GUIDE
Abrasive surfaces, harsh chemicals, and sharp blows can damage even the toughest gemstones; to clean your diamonds, gently scrub with a soft toothbrush and warm soapy water, being careful to only apply the cleaning to the diamonds and avoid contact with the pearls.
